Its substantial enough to anchor the table but open enough that it doesn't block the view across the room.

It hides the ugly metal chain and makes the whole fixture feel softer and more finished. Such a unique detail.

It is very beautiful. We've actually bought two. Wife loves them, and it's easy to install.
