Can I use this in a room with an 8-foot ceiling?

Only V4 will fit safely. It drops 59.1 inches and leaves you about 20 inches of head clearance over a standard table. V1, V2, V3 all drop too far for standard residential ceilings.

What is the finish—is it solid gold or gold plating?

If you buy now, we will not be able to arrange delivery until after February 15th
