A stacked geometric rice paper pendant lamp — four hand-folded multi-faceted polyhedra stacked vertically into a 5.2 ft / 63″ sculptural column. Each face is hand-painted in primary tones (warm red, mustard, sky blue, ivory, matte black) so light glows through one color at a time as it falls down the form. Built on a steel internal frame, E26/E27 base. Indoor only — for foyers, stairwells, lofts, and gallery-style rooms.

⚠ Use LED bulbs only

Rice paper is heat-sensitive. Use only LED bulbs (max 15W, E26/E27 base) — incandescent, halogen, or Edison-filament bulbs run hot enough to discolor or scorch the paper. A 2700K warm-white LED preserves the paper's natural tones.

  • Hardwired ceiling install — a licensed electrician is recommended.
  • Plan ceiling height accordingly: the lamp is 63″ / 5.2 ft tall before cable. Allow at least 7 ft / 84″ between fixture bottom and floor for foyer or stairwell installs.
  • Use LED bulbs only (max 15W). Incandescent, halogen, or Edison-filament bulbs run hot enough to discolor or scorch the paper.
  • Indoor dry location only. Do not install in bathrooms, kitchens above the stove, or any humid area — paper warps and discolors with humidity.
  • Keep at least 12″ / 30 cm clear of curtains, drapes, or other paper surfaces for fire-safety best practice.
  • Rice paper is hand-folded and hand-painted — minor texture variations, fold-line softness, and brush-stroke marks are characteristic of the process, not defects.

Can I use Edison-filament or incandescent bulbs?

No — LED bulbs only, max 15W. Rice paper is heat-sensitive: incandescent and Edison-filament bulbs run at surface temperatures that scorch or discolor paper over time. A 2700K warm-white E26/E27 LED gives the warmest glow without the heat risk.

How much room does this need? Ceiling height requirements?

The lamp is 63″ / 5.2 ft tall before cable. For a comfortable install, plan on at least 7 ft / 84″ clearance between the fixture bottom and the floor — so 12–14 ft ceilings are ideal. It also reads well dropping through a two-story stairwell or open foyer where the full vertical form is visible.

Can I clean it? What if a panel tears?

Dust with a soft dry brush only — no water, no cleaners, no microfiber cloth (the fibers catch on paper texture). If a panel tears, contact authorized service with your order number — individual panels can be replaced rather than the whole fixture.

Can I get a different color palette?

Yes. Solid-white, solid-ivory, and monochrome black-and-white variants are standard custom options. Other palettes are made to order — email us with reference colors before placing the order.

Is it dimmable? Does it work with smart switches?

Yes — dimmable when paired with a dimmable LED bulb and a compatible wall dimmer. Smart switches work as long as they're rated for the LED load (15W or less). Dimmer not included.

If it is a product quality problem or transportation damage, we will provide free return and exchange services, ensuring a hassle-free experience for our customers.

Where Tradition Meets Tranquility Akari Series — Light,
Sculpted by Hand and Spirit
Every lantern begins as raw paper and bamboo. Every crease is placed by hand. The process has not changed in a hundred years — and it shows in the quality of the glow.

The Material Japanese Washi —
A Timeless Art
Washi is a traditional Japanese handmade paper crafted from natural plant fibres — kozo (mulberry), mitsumata, and gampi. The meticulous process of stripping, boiling, washing, and beating fibres into pulp, then forming and drying sheets on bamboo screens, yields paper both exceptionally strong and delicately translucent.
Kozo · Mulberry Mitsumata Gampi Bamboo Frame Hand-Formed Sun-Dried
· Revered for its beauty and durability, washi has long graced calligraphy, origami, architectural shoji screens, and festival lanterns — reflecting Japan's rich cultural heritage and refined aesthetic sensibility. Of Paper, Light, and Cultural Elegance — this is a tradition of making that has endured because it cannot be improved upon. Only practised, inherited, and passed forward.
Complete washi paper production process — 6 stages from raw fibre to finished sheet
Paper · Light · Craft Paper of Light,
Art of Serenity
From fibre to finished glow — every stage of a paper lantern's creation is guided by trained hands, quiet focus, and generations of inherited knowledge.
01

Fibre Selection & Preparation

Raw kozo bark is stripped, boiled in ash-lye, and hand-washed to reveal pure, long-strand fibres ready for papermaking.

02

Sheet Formation

Fibres are beaten into pulp and suspended in water. A bamboo screen is dipped through the suspension, capturing an even, translucent layer of future paper.

03

Drying & Finishing

Sheets are carefully pressed and sun-dried on wooden boards. The result: paper of singular softness, strength, and warm translucency.

04

Frame Building & Wrapping

A bamboo or wood armature is assembled by hand. Washi sheets are layered, stretched, and shaped around the frame to form the lantern.

05

Hand-Painted Motifs

Artisans apply traditional patterns — brushstrokes of ink, botanical motifs, geometric forms — directly onto the washi surface. No two are identical.

Handcrafted Light · Tranquil Glow More Than Décor —
A Presence
When illuminated, a washi lantern does not just light a room. It transforms it — casting a warm, diffused glow that settles the air, softens the shadows, and invites a slower pace.

"Long associated with festivals, meditation, and peaceful living, these lanterns are more than just décor — they are a gentle celebration of harmony and timeless beauty."
