Each Akari pendant is handcrafted from translucent washi paper made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree — the same material used in traditional Japanese shoji screens. The paper filters and softens light into the warm, even glow of afternoon sun through a paper door, creating a serene, timeless presence in any interior.

This pendant undergoes a meticulous hand-bonding process using paper and glue. As a result, minor traces of glue along the edge of the lampshade may be visible. This is a characteristic of the handcraft process and does not constitute a defect or quality issue.

Compatible with LED and Edison filament bulbs. A warm-white LED (2700–3000 K) is strongly recommended — the washi paper diffuses light evenly and the warm tone creates the characteristic golden-cream ambient glow this shade is known for. A clear filament Edison bulb also works beautifully, adding a visible warmth within the paper.

Why are there glue traces on my lampshade?
The Akari pendant is hand-bonded from washi paper and glue — a meticulous handcraft process. Minor traces of glue along the edge of the shade are a characteristic of this process, not a defect or quality issue. Each shade is individually made and will show the marks of its crafting.
What bulb is recommended for this pendant?
A warm-white LED (2700–3000 K) with an E26 or E27 base is strongly recommended. The washi paper softens and diffuses the light evenly, and a warm tone creates the characteristic golden-cream ambient glow. Can the hanging height be adjusted?
Yes. The pendant includes a 59″ adjustable suspension cable. Extensions are available on request — contact our support team before ordering.
