About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish
The base of this sconce is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.
Natural travertine — formed by geological processes
Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

Is the travertine naturally black?
No — travertine is naturally off-white. The deep matte black is achieved through a surface coating applied to the genuine stone. The natural pore structure, weight, and density of real travertine are preserved; the colour is a controlled design choice.
Will my sconce look exactly like the photos?
The matte black coating is consistent, but travertine is a natural stone — each piece has its own pore structure and surface variation. Minor differences from the product photos are expected and reflect the authentic nature of the material.
How is the lamp controlled?
The Alaric has a 19.7″ (50 cm) pull chain for convenient on/off switching, and is also compatible with a standard wall switch connected to the electrical supply.
What bulb does it use?
