Purchase instructions: This product undergoes a meticulous hand-bonding process using paper and glue. As a result, you may notice minor traces of glue along the edge of the lampshade. Please be aware that this occurrence is considered normal and does not constitute a quality issue.

Note*: To ensure correct installation, please follow these connection guidelines:
- Connect the black wire to hole number 2.
- Attach the white wire to hole number 3.

What are the exact dimensions of the Hana Washi Table Lamp?+

The shade measures ∅ 9.8″ × H 13.4″. The cord is 59″ long, giving you flexibility in placement on nightstands, desks, or accent tables.

What materials are used in this lamp?+

The shade is handcrafted from natural rice paper with a white finish. The base is metal and iron, finished in black. All components are assembled by hand in our atelier.

Can I choose a different light source?+

Yes. The lamp accepts either LED or Edison bulbs with E26 or E27 base. Select your preferred bulb type at purchase or request customization through our atelier.

What plug options are available?+

The lamp ships with your choice of US, UK, AU, or EU plug. Select your region at checkout. The inline on/off switch is located on the cord.

Is the handmade washi paper finish uniform?+

The shade undergoes a hand-bonding process with paper and glue. Minor traces of glue along the edges are normal and expected, part of the handcrafted nature of the piece.

The Material Japanese Washi —
A Timeless Art

Washi is a traditional Japanese handmade paper crafted from natural plant fibres — kozo (mulberry), mitsumata, and gampi. The meticulous process of stripping, boiling, washing, and beating fibres into pulp, then forming and drying sheets on bamboo screens, yields paper both exceptionally strong and delicately translucent.

From fibre to finished glow — every stage of a paper lantern's creation is guided by trained hands, quiet focus, and generations of inherited knowledge.

Fibre Selection & Preparation

Raw kozo bark is stripped, boiled in ash-lye, and hand-washed to reveal pure, long-strand fibres ready for papermaking.

Sheet Formation

Fibres are beaten into pulp and suspended in water. A bamboo screen is dipped through the suspension, capturing an even, translucent layer of future paper.

Drying & Finishing

Sheets are carefully pressed and sun-dried on wooden boards. The result: paper of singular softness, strength, and warm translucency.

Frame Building & Wrapping

A bamboo or wood armature is assembled by hand. Washi sheets are layered, stretched, and shaped around the frame to form the lantern.

Hand-Painted Motifs

Artisans apply traditional patterns — brushstrokes of ink, botanical motifs, geometric forms — directly onto the washi surface. No two are identical.
