Which size should I choose for my dining table?

The 21A (∅25.6″) works well over standard dining tables; the 15A (∅34.6″) suits larger tables or creates dramatic focal points. For intimate settings, pair two or three sizes in a cluster configuration for layered ambient light.

Can I customize the cable length for a high ceiling?

Yes. Standard cable adjusts to 197″ (500 cm). Custom extensions are available on request through our atelier for very high ceilings or stairwells—contact us with your ceiling height.

What bulb should I use?

E26 base (bulb not included). A warm 2200–2700K Edison-style filament bulb is strongly recommended—the amber glow through washi paper mimics candlelight beautifully. LED bulbs also work.

Are glue traces on the shade a defect?

No. Minor glue traces along shade edges are a natural result of our hand-bonding process using mulberry washi paper and glue. Each piece carries the warmth of handcraft work.

What cable colors are available?

White & White Cable or White & Black Cable. Choose based on your ceiling and décor to either blend seamlessly or create intentional visual contrast.

What is this pendant made from?

Each shade is handcrafted from translucent washi paper—made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree—hand-bonded over a metal frame. Minor glue traces along the edges are a natural result of this hand-bonding process and are not a defect.

Can I dim this fixture?

The fixture is compatible with dimmer switches. Dimmers must be rated for the bulb type you choose. Ask us about triac dimming as a made-to-order option.

Can I adjust the drop length or cord length?

Yes. The standard cable is 197" (500 cm) and is adjustable. Longer drops can be built for higher ceilings. Contact support@vakkerlight.com with your ceiling height and desired drop length.

Do you offer a custom canopy for sloped or vaulted ceilings?

Yes. Sloped and vaulted ceiling canopies are available. Contact support@vakkerlight.com with your ceiling slope angle or photos, and we will build a canopy to fit.

Is this pendant approved for US households? Do US orders ship free?

Yes. This fixture is certified for North America and operates on standard US household power (110–240V AC). All orders to the 50 US states ship free.

Pendelleuchte aus handgebundenem Washi-Papier in drei Größen

Eine Deckenpendelleuchte aus transluzientem Maulbeerpapier, das von Hand über einem Metallrahmen verklebt ist. Erhältlich in drei Durchmessern – 17,7″, 25,6″ oder 34,6″ – jede wirft ein warmes, diffuses Licht in alle Richtungen. Hängen Sie eine über einem Esstisch, Schreibtisch oder Eingangsbereich auf, oder kombinieren Sie mehrere Pendelleuchten für geschichtete Umgebungsbeleuchtung.

Woraus ist diese Pendelleuchte gefertigt?

Jeder Schirm wird handgefertigt aus durchscheinendem Washi-Papier – hergestellt aus der Innenbark des Maulbeerbaums – und von Hand auf einen Metallrahmen geklebt. Leichte Spuren von Leim an den Rändern sind ein natürliches Ergebnis dieses handwerklichen Klebeprozesses und kein Mangel.

Kann ich diese Leuchte dimmen?

Die Leuchte ist mit Dimmschaltern kompatibel. Dimmschalter müssen für den Leuchtmitteltyp Ihrer Wahl bewertet sein. Fragen Sie uns nach Triac-Dimmung als Sonderanfertigung.

Kann ich die Hängelänge oder Kabellänge anpassen?

The Material Japanese Washi —
A Timeless Art

Washi is a traditional Japanese handmade paper crafted from natural plant fibres — kozo (mulberry), mitsumata, and gampi. The meticulous process of stripping, boiling, washing, and beating fibres into pulp, then forming and drying sheets on bamboo screens, yields paper both exceptionally strong and delicately translucent.

From fibre to finished glow — every stage of a paper lantern's creation is guided by trained hands, quiet focus, and generations of inherited knowledge.

Fibre Selection & Preparation

Raw kozo bark is stripped, boiled in ash-lye, and hand-washed to reveal pure, long-strand fibres ready for papermaking.

Sheet Formation

Fibres are beaten into pulp and suspended in water. A bamboo screen is dipped through the suspension, capturing an even, translucent layer of future paper.

Drying & Finishing

Sheets are carefully pressed and sun-dried on wooden boards. The result: paper of singular softness, strength, and warm translucency.

Frame Building & Wrapping

A bamboo or wood armature is assembled by hand. Washi sheets are layered, stretched, and shaped around the frame to form the lantern.

Hand-Painted Motifs

Artisans apply traditional patterns — brushstrokes of ink, botanical motifs, geometric forms — directly onto the washi surface. No two are identical.

Wow! I love this lamp so much! I put it in our living room. It's the perfect size and looks great in our apartment window. It adds a lot of atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Exactly what was needed

This shade is aesthetically pleasing. You do need to take care when you put in the wire that holds it open. It would be easy to tear the paper globe. Once up, the fact that it is paper does not matter. It will last forever as long as nobody messes with it.
