A solid honey onyx column with a tapered linen drum shade — translucent stone catches warm light through its veined interior

Vesper is a transitional table lamp built around a solid honey onyx column — natural stone with flowing amber and cream veining unique to each piece. The drum shade sits low and wide on the column, diffusing the bulb's warmth evenly across the room. Brass-plated steel hardware at the base, neck, and finial provide warm gold accents at a more accessible price than solid brass.

Compact at 35 cm Ø × 55.6 cm tall (about 14″ × 22″) — sized for nightstands, console tables, and library desks. E26 socket on a plug-in cord; bulb sold separately. The onyx column glows softly when lit, revealing its veining from within.

About the brass-plated hardware. The gold-toned base, neck, and finial are steel finished with a brass plating — this keeps the lamp at an accessible price compared to solid brass equivalents. Plating may show subtle wear at high-contact edges over years of use, which adds a lived-in patina rather than damage. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners.
Each onyx column is unique. Onyx is natural stone formed over millennia in mineral hot springs — veining direction, amber depth, and translucency vary between every piece we cut. The photo shows a representative example, not the exact column you'll receive.

Is the gold hardware solid brass?
No — the base, neck collar, and finial are brass-plated steel, not solid brass. This keeps the lamp at an accessible price compared to solid-brass equivalents. The plating is durable for normal indoor use, but may show subtle wear at high-contact edges over years of use. We recommend dusting with a soft dry cloth and avoiding acidic or abrasive cleaners.
Why does my onyx column look different from the photo?
Onyx is a natural stone — veining direction, amber depth, and translucency vary between every piece we cut. The photo shows a representative example, not the exact column you'll receive. Most customers tell us their actual stone is more interesting than the studio photo.
What bulb should I buy?
Vesper uses a single E26 (standard medium base) bulb, sold separately. We recommend a 40-60W equivalent LED in 2700-3000K warm white — the warm tone reads naturally through the linen shade and brings out the amber veining in the onyx. For dimming, choose a Triac-dimmable LED and pair with a standard Triac wall dimmer.
Does the onyx column glow when lit?
Yes — onyx is naturally translucent, so warm light from the bulb subtly bleeds through the column from above, revealing the veining from within. The effect is most pronounced in dimmer rooms and with warm-white bulbs (2700-3000K). Cool-white bulbs flatten the glow and are not recommended.
The shade arrived with creases — is that normal?
Yes. Cotton-linen shades are flat-packed during shipping, and minor creases relax within a few days of use as the fabric warms slightly under the bulb. For faster smoothing, run a steamer over the outside of the shade from a few inches away — never iron directly.
How do I clean the onyx?
Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth — never soak the stone or use acidic cleaners (lemon, vinegar, bleach), which can etch the natural surface.
