Their expensive price prevented him from buying one — but also inspired him to design his own. - Mount the wall bracket with the included screws. The shade clips onto the bracket and pivots on the swivel hinge.
- The 59" cord can be styled along the wall or left hanging — cord clips are available to keep it tidy.
- For indoor use only. Not suitable for bathrooms or any damp/wet locations.
Is this plug-in or hardwired?
Plug-in. It comes with a 59-inch cord and a standard wall plug. No electrician or hardwiring required — just plug in and go. Control it with the inline on/off switch or the pull cord.
What does the swivel hinge do?
The swivel hinge lets you pivot the lampshade to redirect light — without taking the mount off the wall. It's ideal for bedside reading, task lighting, or just adjusting the ambiance on a whim.
What shapes are available?
Four shapes: Ball (∅11" × H15.7"), Round Ball (∅11.8" × H11.8"), Cigar (∅11.8" × H11"), and Saucer (∅15.7" × H8.6"). All share the same Chrome and Walnut finish with a white polymer shade.
What bulb does it use?
Standard E26 (or E27) base — the most common socket in the US. LED or Edison-style bulbs both work. Bulb not included. An Edison filament bulb at 2200–2700K is recommended for a warm, mid-century glow.
What inspired the Nelson Bubble Lamp design?
In 1952, Swedish hanging lamps were introduced to the American market. George Nelson admired them but couldn't afford them — so he designed his own. The Nelson Bubble Lamp series became iconic for its elemental spherical forms: ball, cigar, pear, and saucer shapes that remain design classics today.
