A pendant ceiling light with a rounded paper shade — a smooth domed top flows into a ribbed cylindrical body, then steps inward to a small footed disc at the bottom. The shade is hand-formed from mulberry-paper stretched over a thin bamboo-rib frame, suspended on a slim ceiling cord that drops to a single warm bulb inside. The paper diffuses light evenly through the whole shade, giving a soft, warm glow rather than a single bright source. Two sizes for different ceiling heights and room scales: Small at ∅ 21.7″ × H 20.9″ (∅ 55 × H 53 cm) or Large at ∅ 34.6″ × H 33.1″ (∅ 88 × H 84 cm).
Hand-formed paper shade
Mulberry-paper stretched over a bamboo-rib frame and shaped by hand. Each shade carries small variation in rib spacing and paper texture.
Warm diffused glow
Paper diffuses light across the whole shade — no harsh hotspot, no glare. Sized to fill a room with warm ambient light when lit.
LED-only inside
Paper shade requires a cool-running LED bulb. Never use incandescent or halogen — they generate heat that damages paper.

LED only — never incandescent or halogen
The shade is mulberry-paper over a bamboo-rib frame. Paper is heat-sensitive: never use incandescent or halogen bulbs, which run hot enough to scorch or ignite paper through prolonged exposure. Use a cool-running LED bulb at 7W or less in warm-white (2700–3000K). A standard A-shape LED with a frosted bulb spreads light evenly through the shade; clear filament-style LEDs cast a slight visible bulb outline through the paper — both work, choose by preference. The bulb is sold separately so you can pick the temperature and look you prefer.
Mulberry-paper over a bamboo-rib frame
Each shade is hand-built: bamboo ribs are bent into the rounded silhouette and lashed together, then mulberry-paper is stretched across the ribs and glued. The bamboo gives the shade its shape and its visible ribbed texture; the paper diffuses the light. Because the shade is hand-formed, the rib spacing, paper grain, and exact silhouette vary subtly between units — small variation is part of how the material is made. - Hardwired to a standard ceiling junction box — we recommend a licensed electrician for installation.
- Plan the mount height so the bottom of the shade clears head height with margin: typically 7 ft (210 cm) above the floor in a living area, or 30–36 inches above a dining table top. The Large especially needs a high ceiling to look in proportion — 10 ft (300 cm) ceiling or taller is best.
- The cord drop is approximately 6 ft and can be shortened during install — measure twice before cutting.
- Unbox carefully — the paper shade is delicate. Lift by the cord and the bamboo-rib structure near the top, never by the paper itself. A small tear in transit is usually repairable with PVA glue and a thin patch of matching paper; for major damage email support with photos.
- Install only an LED bulb at 7W or less. Never use incandescent or halogen, even briefly — paper near a hot bulb scorches and can ignite. A warm-white LED at 2700–3000K, ~600–800 lumens, in a standard A-shape works well.
- Keep the shade at least 30 cm (12″) from curtains, drapes, paper wallpaper, fabric canopies, and other heat-sensitive surfaces. The LED bulb runs cool, but a generous clearance is good practice with any paper light fixture.
- Dust gently with a soft, dry feather duster or a soft, dry artist's brush every few months. Never use a damp cloth, water, or solvents — moisture stains mulberry paper and can deform the shape. Don't vacuum.
- Indoor dry locations only — paper does not tolerate kitchens with steam exposure, bathrooms, covered porches, or outdoor use.
Which size fits my space?
The Small at ∅ 55 cm (21.7″) suits standard residential rooms with 8–9 ft ceilings — above a small dining table, in a living room, in an entryway, or as a bedroom centerpiece. The Large at ∅ 88 cm (34.6″) is a sculptural piece on its own — it needs at least a 10 ft (300 cm) ceiling and a generous room beneath it to look in proportion. Large is best for lofts, double-height entryways, large living rooms, restaurants, and hotel lobbies. If your ceiling is standard residential, choose the Small.
What bulb do I use? Why only LED?
One standard E27 socket inside the shade, with a hard limit of 7W LED, warm-white 2700–3000K. Never use incandescent or halogen bulbs — both run hot enough to scorch the mulberry paper through prolonged exposure, with a real fire risk. A frosted A-shape LED gives the most even glow through the paper; a clear filament-style LED shows a soft bulb outline through the shade, which some buyers like for character. The bulb is sold separately so you can pick the temperature and look you prefer.
How fragile is the paper shade?
Mulberry-paper over bamboo ribs is durable in everyday use but delicate against impact, moisture, and prolonged sun. Handle by the cord and the structural ribs near the top, never by the paper itself. Small tears can be patched at home with a dab of PVA glue and a thin patch of matching paper. For major damage during transit or install, email support with your order number and photos.
How do I clean it?
Dust gently with a soft, dry feather duster or a soft, dry artist's brush every few months. Never use water, a damp cloth, or any liquid cleaner — mulberry paper absorbs moisture, which stains the paper, warps the bamboo ribs, and can deform the silhouette. Don't vacuum (suction can pull the paper). If the shade gets visibly dirty over years, the paper can be carefully replaced on the bamboo frame by a skilled hand — contact us for guidance.
What is the warranty?
The pendant carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects in the paper, bamboo frame, wiring, and socket under normal indoor use. Email support with your order number if anything arrives damaged or fails in normal use. Small lot-to-lot variation in paper grain, rib spacing, and silhouette is part of the hand-formed material and not a defect. Damage from water, sun exposure, incandescent/halogen bulb use, or installation outside indoor dry locations is not covered.
