A pair of paper floor lanterns built on the same slim wire tripod base — a cream rice-paper shade stretched over a bamboo-rib internal frame, capped by a warm terracotta-orange ring at the top with a wire handle, and seated above three black-steel legs. Choose between two shapes at the same H 23″ (58.5 cm) height: a wider Rounded form for a generous octagonal silhouette, or a narrower Angular form with a pinched diamond profile. Both ship with a 5W warm-white LED bulb included. A quiet sculptural floor light for a living room, study, or bedroom.

Rice-paper shade

Soft rice paper (washi) stretched over a faceted form — translucent and warm when lit.

Bamboo-rib frame

Slim bamboo ribs run horizontally inside the shade — visible as fine ridges across the paper.

Wire tripod base

Three slim black-steel legs splay outward for a stable, minimal floor stand.

Shape Top diameter Height Silhouette
Rounded ∅ 31.5 cm (12.4″) 58.5 cm (23″) Wider, generous octagonal
Angular ∅ 26.5 cm (10.4″) 58.5 cm (23″) Narrower, pinched diamond

Use LED bulbs only — paper shade is heat-sensitive

Never use incandescent or halogen bulbs in this fixture. The rice-paper shade and bamboo ribs are flammable and cannot safely absorb the heat of a traditional bulb. Both shapes ship with a 5W warm-white LED bulb; replacements should also be LED only, at or below 7W. If the bulb feels warm to the touch in normal use, switch to a lower-wattage LED. Always switch off and let the bulb cool before changing it.

5W warm-white LED bulb included

One E27 (Edison screw) socket per lantern, fitted with a 5W warm-white LED bulb in the box — no need to source one yourself. Replacements should be LED only, at or below 7W, in any warm-white color temperature (2700–3000K matches best with the warm shade and orange terminal rings).

Cream rice paper, terracotta-orange rings, black tripod

A single finish offered in both shapes — cream rice-paper shade with visible bamboo-rib ridges, warm terracotta-orange terminal rings at top and bottom, and a slim wire handle. The tripod base is matte-black steel. Each shade is hand-finished, so the exact tone of the paper and the rib spacing shift subtly between pieces. For project quantities, email us before ordering.

  • Unpack carefully — the paper shade is fragile and can tear or dent if knocked against the box edge. Lift the lantern by the wire handle or by the bottom ring, never by the paper.
  • Set the tripod on a flat, stable surface. Splay the three legs evenly until the lantern sits level.
  • Install only the included 5W LED bulb, or an LED replacement at or below 7W. Never use incandescent or halogen bulbs — the paper shade cannot tolerate the heat.
  • Plug into a standard outlet; use the in-line cord switch on the cable to turn the lamp on and off.
  • Keep the lantern indoors in dry locations — paper absorbs moisture and humidity can warp or stain the shade. Not suitable for bathrooms, covered porches, or outdoor use.
  • Keep curtains, bedding, and other fabrics at least 30 cm (12″) from the shade as a general fire-safety precaution.
  • Dust the shade gently with a soft, dry brush or a feather duster — never use water, solvents, or sticky lint rollers on the paper.
  • If the paper tears, small repairs with archival rice-paper patches and PVA glue are possible; email us for repair guidance.

Which shape and which room?

Both shapes share the same H 58.5 cm height. The Rounded form at ∅ 31.5 cm reads more generous and sculptural — best beside a sofa or in an open corner where it has room to be seen. The Angular form at ∅ 26.5 cm has a slimmer footprint and a sharper, pinched silhouette — better in a narrow corner, beside a bed, or in a study where space is tighter. Both throw a soft warm glow through the rice paper as ambient or accent lighting, not direct task light.

What bulb does it use, and can I change it?

The lantern uses a standard E27 (Edison screw) socket and ships with a 5W warm-white LED bulb already in the box. You can replace the bulb with any LED at or below 7W in a warm-white color temperature (2700–3000K matches the paper tone best). Never fit an incandescent or halogen bulb — those generate dangerous heat for the paper shade and bamboo ribs.

Will the paper yellow, tear, or look exactly like the photos?

The shade is rice paper (washi) on bamboo ribs — a natural, fibrous material. The exact tone of cream, the rib spacing, and small wrinkles or hand-finishing marks shift subtly between pieces; the photo is representative. Rice paper does yellow gradually with time and UV exposure, which is part of how the material ages. Keep out of direct sunlight to slow this. Small tears can be patched with archival rice-paper repair kits.

How do I clean it?

Dust the shade gently with a soft, dry brush or a clean feather duster, in the direction of the bamboo ribs. Never use water, soap, solvents, or sticky lint rollers on the paper — paper absorbs moisture, which can warp or stain the shade permanently. Wipe the metal rings and tripod legs with a dry microfiber.

What is the warranty?

Both shapes carry a 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects in the wiring, socket, switch, and frame. Email support with your order number if anything arrives damaged or fails in normal use. Paper aging (yellowing, fiber changes) and small variation in rib spacing or paper tone are part of the natural material and not covered as defects.

Where Tradition Meets Tranquility Akari Series — Light,
Sculpted by Hand and Spirit
Every lantern begins as raw paper and bamboo. Every crease is placed by hand. The process has not changed in a hundred years — and it shows in the quality of the glow.

The Material Japanese Washi —
A Timeless Art
Washi is a traditional Japanese handmade paper crafted from natural plant fibres — kozo (mulberry), mitsumata, and gampi. The meticulous process of stripping, boiling, washing, and beating fibres into pulp, then forming and drying sheets on bamboo screens, yields paper both exceptionally strong and delicately translucent.
Kozo · Mulberry Mitsumata Gampi Bamboo Frame Hand-Formed Sun-Dried
· Revered for its beauty and durability, washi has long graced calligraphy, origami, architectural shoji screens, and festival lanterns — reflecting Japan's rich cultural heritage and refined aesthetic sensibility. Of Paper, Light, and Cultural Elegance — this is a tradition of making that has endured because it cannot be improved upon. Only practised, inherited, and passed forward.
Complete washi paper production process — 6 stages from raw fibre to finished sheet
Paper · Light · Craft Paper of Light,
Art of Serenity
From fibre to finished glow — every stage of a paper lantern's creation is guided by trained hands, quiet focus, and generations of inherited knowledge.
01

Fibre Selection & Preparation

Raw kozo bark is stripped, boiled in ash-lye, and hand-washed to reveal pure, long-strand fibres ready for papermaking.

02

Sheet Formation

Fibres are beaten into pulp and suspended in water. A bamboo screen is dipped through the suspension, capturing an even, translucent layer of future paper.

03

Drying & Finishing

Sheets are carefully pressed and sun-dried on wooden boards. The result: paper of singular softness, strength, and warm translucency.

04

Frame Building & Wrapping

A bamboo or wood armature is assembled by hand. Washi sheets are layered, stretched, and shaped around the frame to form the lantern.

05

Hand-Painted Motifs

Artisans apply traditional patterns — brushstrokes of ink, botanical motifs, geometric forms — directly onto the washi surface. No two are identical.

Handcrafted Light · Tranquil Glow More Than Décor —
A Presence
When illuminated, a washi lantern does not just light a room. It transforms it — casting a warm, diffused glow that settles the air, softens the shadows, and invites a slower pace.

"Long associated with festivals, meditation, and peaceful living, these lanterns are more than just décor — they are a gentle celebration of harmony and timeless beauty."
